The case involves a substantial waste management practice that has been ongoing within the Think Pink Group’s business operations for several years. The operations have been conducted at various sites throughout Sweden. The prosecution brought charges against eleven individuals for their involvement in aggravated environmental offences at several waste management sites. The accused individuals held various positions in the Think Pink Group’s business operations.
According to the Court's judgement, the Group's waste management activities across multiple sites was, to a considerable extent, markedly inadequate or incorrect.
- The Group’s waste management activities have posed risks — in certain instances, substantial risks — to both human health and the environment. Hence, there is no doubt that environmental offences were committed at the sites where the waste was handled, says the Presiding judge Niklas Schüllerqvist.
The Court has rendered prison sentences upon five individuals for their significant involvement in the Group’s waste management. The main defendant, who acted as the Group's official representative and was effectively in charge of its operations, has been sentenced to six years in prison for 19 cases of aggravated environmental crime. The other five defendants receive different sentences. One of the defendants has been fully acquitted of all counts.
In addition, the Court imposed a trade ban against the principal defendant and three other co- defendants. The principal defendant and four other co-defendants have also been held jointly liable for damages amounting to approximately SEK 250 million.
